![]() The Archbishop of Burgos (Spain) Francisco Gil Hellin, in a recent statement reported by the Catholic News Agency, affirmed that there is no such thing as the right to kill an innocent human and consequently, no obligation to comply with Spain's new law on abortion. Rather “direct opposition without distinction” must be mounted, he added and continued. “ This law is not a law, although it is presented as such by some politicians and lawmakers. It is no law because nobody has the right to take the life of an innocent human being. For this reason it is not obligatory. Moreover, it demands direct opposition without distinction,” the archbishop said underscoring that reason cannot recognize abortion as a right because it constitutes the killing “of a person who is not guilty. The right of a person to exist who has already been conceived, although not yet born, is not a belief stemming from any religion. One does not need to be a believer to hold that an innocent person has the right to be defended and respected in his or her integrity. Common sense dictates that one cannot take a human life in order to solve another problem or to “get money or votes,” Bishop Hellin continued. The Archbishop urged Spaniards to help all mothers who are in difficult situations and to support motherhood “with all the means at our disposal” in order to “halt this plague of abortion that, in Spain alone has already destroyed more people than all those who live in the cities of Zaragoza, Cordoba and Burgos.” (AP) (15/7/2010 Agenzia Fides) |

Mother Theresa on Abortion
"Mother Teresa of Calcutta was called from this world on September 5, 1997. In my many conversations with her about the pro-life movement, it was very clear that she expected us not simply to pray but to intervene. She told me about how she went to the places where abortions were performed and took the women by the arm, away from that place of death and to her communities where they would find hope and life for themselves and their children." Fr. Frank Pavonne, Priests for Life “If we allow a mother to kill her own child, how can we tell people not to kill each other?” Mother Teresa "The greatest destroyer of peace is abortion." "When the times comes as it surely will, when we face that awesome moment, the final judgment, I've often thought, as Fulton Sheen wrote, that it is a...terrible moment of loneliness. You have no advocates, you are there alone standing before God ...and a terror will rip your soul like nothing you can imagine. But, I really think that those in the pro-life movement will not be alone. I think there'll be a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world....and they will plead for everyone who has been in this movement. They will say to God, "Spare him, because he loved us." ....and God will look at you and say NOT, "Did you succeed?" BUT "Did you try?" ~Congressman Henry Hyde Bishop Galante's endorsement
